Air India took delivery of its first of 14 A320neos leased from Kuwait-based ALAFCO. Air India is the first CFM powered A320neo operator in India. This delivery is the first A320neo for ALAFCO from an order for 85. The A320neo is now part of Air India’s fleet of 66 A320s.
India is one the great market opportunities. The following table shows the nation’s A320 fleet, by operator, as of 3Q16. India is a fast growing market and single aisles is where fleet growth is fastest everywhere. This what the country’s single aisle fleet looked like as of 3Q16.
India has more A320neos in operation than any other country at this early stage. Airbus’ A320 is the most popular model in India. The A320s that formerly were operated by Indian Airlines now fall under the Air India fleet. Air India has 21 737-800s averaging six years old as well, flying under the Air India Express brand. Airbus has an opportunity to increase its A320neo business with the airline, but Boeing will fight them for every order.
