Bombardier Commercial Aircraft officially launched the new CRJ550 aircraft, the first triple-class 50-seat aircraft in the world. The CRJ550 is a new CRJ Series aircraft model, with a new type certificate based on the CRJ700. United Airlines is the launch customer of this new model.

Analysis

What we are seeing here is a long awaited revival of the CRJ700. For many US airlines the switch from the 50-seater regional jet to a 76-seater (like E-175 and CRJ900) was too big a leap

.  Regional airline interest in the CRJ700 was short lived as several airlines did go for the larger CRJ900.
