Boeing MAX 10 Farnborough 2022

Boeing MAX 10 Farnborough 2022

Care to share?

Boeing had another good month in June, with 121 orders and 64 deliveries, especially ahead of next week’s airshow. Deliveries are up 12% YTD.

Key items

  • Orders were good, particularly for 102 MAX from ‘Unidentified’. The MAX program continues to see market support.
  • 42 MAXs delivered – right on target.  Boeing

averaged 40 MAX deliveries/month YTD through June. The next step is getting to 47/month.

    • Certification of the MAX 7 and MAX 10 are apparently imminent. This can’t come soon enough for Boeing.
    • On MAX 7 – there are 25 ready for Southwest Airlines. The airline and OEM are disputing over them. Calendar-driven components that have aged in storage are the sticking point — the dispute is over who absorbs the cost.
    • The recently opened North Line is another major factor affecting MAX 10 production.
  • 13 787s delivered – the system is clearing. This means good news stretches back into the supply chain, which has hampered widebody deliveries for both OEMs.

Going behind the official data

Our tracking model does not match Boeing’s numbers because we define a delivery as the aircraft leaving the FAL, rather than as a ‘contractual delivery’.  Even so, the following chart illustrates Boeing’s continued production improvements playing out in the data.  Delivery days is the number of days between first flight and delivery.  A declining number indicates improved industrialization.  Not only are these numbers improving for the key MAX program, but they are also competitive with Airbus. Overall, then, a good signal for the industry as a whole.
