Avolon Firms Order for 140 737 MAX 10

Irish aircraft lessor Avolon has firmed an order with Boeing for 140 737 MAX 10 aircraft. The firming comes two weeks after the FAA certified the MAX 10, enabling customer deliveries. This is the largest 737 MAX order from a leasing company.

The MAX 10 competes at the top of the narrow-body segment with the Airbus A321neo. The MAX 10 can carry up to 230 passengers with a range of about 3,100 nautical miles. With a larger fuselage than the MAX 9, the aircraft provides a stronger competitor in the high-capacity narrow-body marketplace.

The A321neo leads the segment. At the end of September, the A321neo family had a backlog of 5,656 aircraft, versus 1,555 for the MAX 10. That is a large market advantage, and also reflects Avolon’s prior orders for 264 A321neo family aircraft.
