Two stories emerged on the MAX today, the first indicating, as we previously forecast, a December return to service, and the second, that German authorities refused airspace passage for a Norwegian 737MAX being repositioned without passengers that was forced to land in France instead of its home base for repairs.
In addition, comments by Delta CEO Ed Bastien have been taken out of context but indicate that the “industry has been traumatized” by the MAX situation. Delta doesn’t fly the MAX, but does fly other Boeing aircraft and expressed confidence in the company and its aircraft. Like many others in the industry, Delta considers safety a given, and a quote about not thinking about safety in the aircraft selection process was incorrectly interpreted by some in the media.
