Transport Canada granted type certification for the PW545D engine which will power the new Cessna Citation Ascend aircraft. Cedric Gauthier, VP Sales and Marketing for General Aviation at Pratt & Whitney Canada stated “As the latest derivative in the PW500 engine family, we look forward to the Ascend’s entry into service. Certification was granted following 630 hours of engine testing, in addition to 230 hours of flight testing on the Ascend prototype test aircraft.”
Advanced mixer and efficiency improvements in the compressor and turbine section lower fuel burn and reduce operating temperatures. The combination of Full Authority Digital Engine Control technology along with a new auto-throttle results in simpler engine operation that maximizes efficiency and reduces pilot workload.
Pratt & Whitney Canada has approximately 4,600 PW500 family engines in service, with more than 5,000 manufactured and the fleet has accumulated 24.5 million hours. The latest model for the Ascend incorporates lessons learned and adds new technology to a proven engine family.
