We had a detailed chat with Michael Baiada, a retired commercial airline pilot, to discuss one of his and our favorite subjects: Airline Operations. Michael has been studying the impact of airline delays and operational costs for a long time. His opinions are based on experience from a front-row seat.
The delay costs are bigger than we have been estimating. The costs are significant, and somehow, the delays haven’t been reduced over the decades of throwing money at ATC. We will likely see another round of money thrown at the idea again.
You can read Michael’s articles and reports on the https://GreenLandings.net website on the Articles page. He mentions the cost analysis at the end.
As an additional perspective, here’s a data model of US airline delays published by the US DoT.
