Farnborough Airshow 2026
Day 4 of the Farnborough Airshow was the last official one for doing deals and orders, but most of the corporates had already left on Wednesday. The static display was also pretty empty, as Airbus and Embraer had removed their aircraft and flown them back to wherever they needed to go. Thursday’s view summed up this airshow: it was a bit quiet.
There was supposed te be coming one more order announcement from Airbus, but a spokesperson can’t confirm it will be announced today.
So we have a look at the numbers as they stood at the end of Day 3 on Wednesday evening. We count total orders, options, MoUs, and LoIs for 432 commercial aircraft. Boeing outscored Airbus at 178 to 164, with Embraer recording sales for 90 E-jets. ATR didn’t report any orders and instead preferred to engage with customers.
But as we wrote in our pre-airshow story, watch out for orders that have been in the undisclosed (Airbus) or unidentified (Boeing) backlog in recent months. At Farnborough, firm orders for 129 and 74 options were coming out of the backlog, for a total of 203. This reduced the new orders/options announced at this show to 229. By comparison: Farnborough 2024 saw total orders for 356 aircraft, but back then, we counted only 40 previously agreed deals, bringing the net score to 326.
Boeing’s new orders were just 15 from AerCap, plus an MoU from Philippine for 15 firm plus five options. 163 orders came from the backlog, including Riyadh Air, SMBC, MSC Air Cargo, Uganda Airlines, and Luxair. Boeing won orders for all models, including the MAX 8 and 10, 777-8F, and 787-9 and 787-10.
Airbus won new orders for 100 airliners from SMBC, plus an MoU for nine from Philippine Airlines. The rest of the 164 is from the undisclosed backlog, including those from Riyadh Air, Shonin Airlines, BermudAir, and flynas. Airbus also won orders for most models, including the A220-300, A320neo, A321neo, A330-900 and A350-1000.
Embraer signed new firm orders for 45 aircraft, plus 10 options and 30 purchase rights from Abra and Binter. We also include here Azorra’s order and options for 30 E190F freighter conversions, although the aircraft are existing E1-frames. Previous firm orders or options/purchase rights total five (Fuji Dream and Luxair). The Brazilians sold E175s, E190-E2s, and E195-E2s.
We had anticipated orders from Singapore Airlines, Etihad, Ethiopian, American, Qantas, and Condor, but they didn’t happen.
