Premium #204 – First Flight of the 737MAX – What it Means for Boeing

Boeing is in the process of replacing cash cows, something it has done successfully in the past, and hopes to continue to doing in the future. Replacing the 737 Classic with the NG was a smooth process, and went without a hitch. Airlines and Boeing are expecting the transition from the NG to the MAX to be equally smooth, and so far the project is ahead of schedule.

With 3,116 firm orders and MOUs in hand before first delivery, the MAX will quickly become Boeing’s all time best seller once deliveries start in late 2017. The MAX, which was launched a year after Airbus launched its neo during a period of high fuel prices, trails the neo in overall orders and MOUs 4,560 to 3,116.
