JetSMART Airlines celebrated its first year of domestic operations in Colombia, transporting over 3.2 million passengers. Since its arrival, the airline has established a network of 17 domestic routes connecting 10 cities: Bogotá, Medellín, Cali, Santa Marta, Cartagena, Pereira, San Andrés, Barranquilla, Montería, and Cúcuta. As part of its growth strategy, JetSMART has consolidated two operational bases: one at the Puente Aéreo in Bogotá and the other at the José María Córdova International Airport in Rionegro. JetSMART’s CEO, Estuardo Ortiz, stated, “A year ago, we started our domestic operations to offer affordable flights to Colombians. We appreciate the trust of the more than 3.2 million passengers who have chosen to fly with us from Bogotá and Medellín. We continue to invest in Colombia to reach 100 aircraft and 100 million passengers across South America.” Currently, JetSMART operates in Colombia with eight Airbus A320NEO aircraft. The company’s growth is supported by Indigo Partners, a firm specializing in low-cost airlines, and its strategic partnership with American Airlines, which has strengthened its position in the South American market. A notable fact from this first year is that 38% of passengers flew on an airplane for the first time. Mario García, Country Manager for JetSMART in Colombia, remarked, “Our commitment is to continue offering ultra-low fares and expanding our network of routes to make air travel more accessible to Colombians.”
