JetBlue is to become the first major US airline to have a female CEO, as Joanna Geraghty will take over from Robin Hayes as early as February 12. The carrier announced the leadership transition on Monday, citing health issues as the reason for Hayes to step down after ten years as CEO. Hayes will stay on as a consultant in the coming months.

“It’s bittersweet to retire from this airline I love, but I will always feel a part of the JetBlue team and be rooting for its continued success. For nearly 35 years – both at British Airways and here at JetBlue – I’ve loved working in this industry,” Hayes said in a media statement.
