UPDATE – Vietnam Airlines placed an order with Boeing for fifty MAX 8 aircraft, shifting away from the predominantly Airbus fleet to more US-built aircraft. The purchase was announced on September 10/11 during the state visit of US President Joe Biden to Vietnam.

“Boeing and Vietnam Airlines will sign a multi-billion-dollar proposal acceptance to purchase 50 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft that will benefit both countries by supporting U.S. manufacturing jobs and providing world-class aircraft to support Vietnam’s growing travel and tourism industry as they aspire to become a leading aviation hub,” the White House said in a fact sheet after the meeting between Biden and Vietnam’s General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.
