Last week Bloomberg put out a story that caught our eye. The way the story reads one is guided to thinking that GE is out to challenge the P&W and Rolls-Royce patents on gears. After all, “GE is challenging technology at the heart of Pratt’s newest engine”, certainly points in that direction. GE is also facing off against patents awarded to Rolls-Royce.

We contacted GE and asked for an explanation of what the challenges are about. GE provided us with the following statement:
