Another sign of growing program confidence at Boeing. WestJet’s first MAX 10 had its first flight on March 2. The registration is C-FMWY.

WestJet is a Key Program Customer

The MAX 10 order was placed in September 2022.  WestJet placed an initial order for 42 737 MAX 10s with options for an additional 22.  Then, in September 2025, WestJet announced its largest-ever order — 60 additional 737 MAX 10s (with options for 25 more) and seven 787-9s (with options for four more), bringing the firm order book to 123 aircraft. This made WestJet the holder of the largest Boeing order book among Canadian airlines.

In February 2026, WestJet converted six of its 737 MAX 10 orders into two 787-9s, bringing its confirmed 787-9 orderbook from seven to nine aircraft, with four additional options. After the conversion, WestJet holds roughly 96 firm 737 MAX 10 orders with options for 25.

Initial plans called for a 212-seat layout with 12 business-class seats and 200 economy seats, plus three lavatories. Following passenger backlash over cabin densification on existing aircraft, WestJet revised this to a 199-seat configuration with four lavatories.

WestJet is expected to be the launch operator for the 737 MAX 10 and anticipates receiving its first aircraft in 4Q26, pending FAA certification of the type. Boeing has been working through regulatory approvals for a redesigned engine anti-ice system.

MAX Inventory

Boeing has eight MAX 10s in inventory.  Of these, five areheaded to United Airlines. The oldest aircraft first flew on 6/18/2021 – 1,720 days ago today. The cost of these MAX 10s and the 25 MAX 7s has been a financial burden.

But the program is seeing success, as the other family models are moving from first flight to delivery at a clip not seen since before 2019. The last delayed inventory MAX was delivered last month.

If Boeing is building and testing customer MAX 10s again, then this is a positive sign of rising confidence in certification this year.  Something many customers are eagerly waiting for.
