Embraer wins two key orders as backlog grows |

Embraer won both a civilian and military aircraft contract this week. The new orders bring the company’s book to bill ratio for 2024 up to 1.71, a strong performance as growth in military operations with multiple C-390 wins has strengthened backlog. Civil Order with Luxair On the civil side, Luxair has exercised option for two additional E195-E2 models, bringing its total to six on order, with three purchase rights remaining. First deliveries under the 2023 order are expected in early 2026, with the additional aircraft scheduled for 2027. The E2 is perfectly suited to Luxair’s operations and ambitions, closely complementing Luxair’s existing and on-order fleet, ensuring the maximum level of fleet and network optimization to the airline for the long-term. The E2’s advanced features, new technology, low noise and environmental footprint, make it possible for airlines to manage both their growth and sustainability goals.” Military Order with Portugal On the military side, Embraer has entered into a contract to supply Portugal with 12 A-29N Super Tucano multi-mission aircraft for its Air Force. Portugal becomes the first European and NATO operator of the aircraft that is designed for pilot training, light attack, close air support and intelligence missions. The NATO model announced in 2023 includes specialized NATO communications systems and other capabilities. [caption id="attachment_88861" align="aligncenter" width="640"] image: Embraer[/caption] More than 260 Super Tucano aircraft are currently in service and have accumulated more than 570,000 flight hours, including 60,000 in combat. “The project will involve a strong participation of the Portuguese industry in highly technological areas, with a view to reconfiguring the aircraft to NATO standards and specifications,” said a statement from Portuguese defense minister Nuno Melo. ”This contract gives us the opportunity to contribute to the modernization of the Portuguese air force and to further deepen our strong partnership,” said Embraer Defense and Security CEO Bosco da Costa, Jr. Much like the C-390, with a NATO version now available, campaigns with other countries, including the Netherlands and Austria, may produce multiple NATO customers for the aircraft over the next decade. Embraer anticipates a potential market for more than 500 aircraft over the next 20 years for the Super Tucano, valued at a potential $6.5 billion.
