Delta Air Lines and LATAM Airlines Group agreed to include Argentina within the scope of their Joint Venture (JV) agreement. The move came two years after the strategic alliance between the two companies began, and it aimed to optimize the connection network for passengers and cargo between Argentina, the United States, and Canada. The airlines reported they obtained the final necessary prior regulatory approval and notified the operation to the National Commission for the Defense of Competition in Argentina for post-implementation evaluation.

With this expansion, customers gain access to a combined network of over 200 destinations between the three countries involved. For Argentinian passengers, this represents improved connections to Delta’s network of destinations in the United States and Canada.

The agreement deepens reciprocal benefits for members of the Delta SkyMiles and LATAM Pass loyalty programs. Members can jointly accumulate miles or points on both airlines. Additionally, Delta SkyMiles members have the option to redeem their miles on flights operated by LATAM. In the coming months, LATAM Pass members will also be able to redeem their points on Delta-operated flights, expanding travel options between North and South America.

The incorporation of Argentina into the JV strengthens the position of both airlines in a key market. Air traffic between Argentina and North America is the second most important for the South American country, after regional flights. Currently, there are direct flights from Buenos Aires (EZE) to Atlanta (ATL), Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW), Houston (IAH), Miami (MIA), and New York (JFK). Analysts previously noted that Argentina was left out of the initial scope of the JV, possibly due to regulatory or bureaucratic issues.

The JV expansion also includes improvements in connectivity for cargo customers between the United States/Canada and Argentina. Integrated solutions will be offered on both passenger and freighter aircraft, with more flight options and connections.
