CFM LEAP Clears 1.000 Deliveries in HY1

CFM delivered 1.030 LEAP engines over the first six months, breaking the 1.000-barrier in a half-year period for the first time in the history of the program. The program was affected by various supply chain issues in recent years, but the 41 percent increase year-over-year shows solid progress has been made and that a full-year target of over 2.000 LEAP deliveries is possible. 1.030 compares to 729 for HY1 2025, 664 in 2024, 785 in 2023, 465 in 2022, 399 in 2021, 450 in 2020, 861 in 2019, 436 in 2018, 174 in 2017, and 11 in 2016, the first year in service of the LEAP. Q2 deliveries stood at 510 engines, up from 410 last year, thanks to improved material availability to GE Aerospace and Safran, the two companies that form CFM International. That’s the big difference with early last year, when issues at a single supplier slowed down the delivery target for Q1. This Q1, LEAP deliveries were up by 63 percent. Shop visits With more in-service LEAPs and a durability upgrade program in progress, LEAP shop visits grew by over 50 percent in HY1. “To meet the strong demand, we are investing in our manufacturing and overhaul facilities and continue to strengthen our external global MRO network to support LEAP aftermarket demand by adding Iberia as the seventh Premier MRO and expanding Delta TechOps capabilities for both LEAP 1-A and LEAP 1-B engines”, GE Aerospace says in the 10Q filing that was released with the HY1 results on Thursday. “We are also deploying engineering and supply chain resources to increase production, expand capacity and strengthen yield. These investments, combined with improved material availability, contributed to internal shop visit revenue growth of 30 percent in the first half of 2026, and total engine deliveries and LEAP engine deliveries increases of 37 percent and 41 percent, respectively.” High demand for services of all GE engines is evident from the revenues and profit. For Q2, revenues at Commercial Services grew to $7.4 billion from $5.9 billion, and to $14.3 billion from $10.8 billion for HY1. The segment profit was $2.7 billion, up from $2.2 billion, or to $5.0 billion from $4.1 billion for the first six months. While slightly lower than in 2025, the 26.9 percent profit margin is still very strong. An almost identical margin caused irritation with then IATA Director General Willie Walsh during the AGM in June, who accused engine OEMs of making big money over the back of airlines. “Stop gouging us and get back to making great engines that work and that last.” Culp was asked during the earnings call what he made about comments that OEMs aren’t delivering what they promised and airlines pay the jackpot. “There's no question, whether it be cost of ownership, whether it be time on wing. We've heard those concerns loud and clear. I think what I was encouraged by in IATA and also in some of the recent customer feedback that we've got is I think people see us here in the short term doing all that we can to support them. We've got LEAP AOG's aircraft on the ground down to near zero at the moment, despite the fact that the durability kit is not fully installed. And we're doing that through a combination of making sure we've got adequate spare engine coverage in the field, we're reducing the turnaround times.” GE Aerospace guides LEAP shops visits to grow by 25 percent CAGR from now until 2030, CFO Rahul Ghai. “We now expect commercial equipment to grow around 20 percent up from mid to high teens, with LEAP deliveries up high teens from 15 percent previously, and we expect Defense Propulsion Technologies growth of low double digits, up from mid to high single digits.” LEAP update CFM recently completed the certification for the LEAP 1-B durability kit, which includes upgraded high-pressure turbine blades that are expected to double time-on-wing for the engine on the Boeing MAX family. GE Aerospace also delivered significantly more GEnx engines to Boeing for the 787. 299 in HY1 this year compared to 222 last year. Q1 deliveries stood at 149 versus 115. President and CEO Larry Culp rebuffed comments from his Boeing colleague Kelly Ortberg that GE is not delivering enough GEnx engines. Widebody deliveries have been up 30 percent in HY1, and Boeing is having adequate inventory to produce Dreamliners at the current rate of eight aircraft per month. Culp told Reuters that GE will do everything to support Boeing with the rate ramp to 10 and later 14 per month.
