CityJet has signed an agreement with Sukhoi for 15 SSJ 100s with options for an additional 10. The value of the agreement is more than $ 1bn, including options and services. CityJet is working with aircraft financier Falko, which will purchase the aircraft and lease them to the airline.
The first SSJ 100s will be delivered in the first quarter of 2016. SuperJet will deliver the first four in 2016 and another 11 in 2017.
For Superjet this is the second major contract with a western customer and the first in Europe. Interjet Mexico is the only operator of the western model.
CityJet will be using the SSJ100 replacing a fleet of Avro RJ85s, which operates throughout Europe. Superjet is waiting for the SSJ100 to get the necessary certification for the operations of London City Airport. SuperJet advised us the aircraft will have this authorization “from the end of 2016”. The Irish airline plans to operate the Superjet in charter service next year, and introduce them into network service to London City in 2017.
The selection of the SSJ by CityJet is a breakthrough. SuperJet is said to be be close to another order, this time from Egypt Air.
