China’s COMAC has begun design work on the C939, a large 400 seat wide-body transport that will compete with the Boeing 777X and Airbus A350-1000 at the top of the airliner market according to a report in the South China Morning Post.The company, which makes the ARJ21 regional jet and C919 narrow-body jet, is achieving success in the domestic market.The C919 has gained more than 1,500 orders from Chinese airlines and lessors and is now looking to expand internationally.
The company is also developing the C929 that began life as a joint venture project with Russia before they pulled out after the start of the Ukraine conflict.The C929 is a mid-sized wide body, that is designed to compete with the Boeing 787 and Airbus A330neo.
