flynas Airbus order Farnborough 2026
Day 3 in a warm and humid Farnborough has produced only a couple of aircraft orders. And they were all for Airbus.
The biggest one was from Saudi low-cost carrier flynas for 20 more A321neos and five more A330-900s, making it the first and, so far, only one for this Airbus widebody variant. The Saudi delegation arrived at the Airbus chalet around 1 pm, but preferred a signing ceremony without media presence.
The order for both types is a firming up of previously agreed purchase rights. It brings flynas’s commitment to the A330-900 to 20 aircraft, while A320neo family orders now stand at 215. Right now, the fleet consists of 67 aircraft
The aircraft will support the airline’s continued expansion over the next few years. Flynas operates out of six bases in Saudi Arabia but also eyes expansion in Syria, now that air travel has resumed in that country.
As reported elsewhere on AirInsight, Airbus won a new customer for the A220: BermudAir confirmed an order for 10 -300s plus 10 options that has been in the undisclosed backlog since March. They were listed with Odessey until February, but for the A220-100.
Lessors
During the airshow week, several lessors announced that they had placed airliners from their orderbooks. Vietnam Airlines is to lease 10 Boeing MAX 8s from SMBC and 8 from Avolon. CALC placed seven A321neos with Turkish Airlines, while Aviation Capital Group signed lease agreements with Skymark Airlines for seven MAX 10s.
On the engine OEM side, CFM welcomed an MoU from FlyOne Armenia to power two Airbus A321neos that were ordered in May. On Tuesday, Rolls-Royce signed an order with Somon Air to power two Boeing 787s with Trent 1000 XE engines. The UK engine maker also signed an MoU with Philippine Airlines for XWB-97 engines for nine A350-1000s that the airline announced as an MoU too.
Adding up all the numbers, Farnborough Airshow has produced firm orders, options, MoUs, purchase rights, and LoIs for 434 aircraft. Of these, 193 have been previously undisclosed/unidentified orders.
