How many aircraft have been delivered in Latin America in 2021?

This year, several Latin American carriers have received new aircraft, both from Boeing and Airbus, according to the stats provided by these two OEMs. Moreover, it is expected that more planes will arrive in the region in the following years, mainly with low-cost operators. But, how many aircraft have been delivered in Latin America in 2021? Airbus is winning the race So far, Airbus is winning the race of aircraft deliveries in Latin America in 2021. Up to August, the European OEM had delivered 20 planes to several low-cost carriers in the subcontinent. Worldwide, Airbus has delivered 384 aircraft, meaning Latin America represents just a mere 5%. The Mexican low-cost carrier Volaris has received eight new Airbus A320neo this year alone. Of this total, three are leased with Aviation Capital Group, two with Air Lease Corporation, and two more came directly to the airline. Meanwhile, its low-cost competitor, Viva Aerobus, has received two Airbus A321neo, according to Airbus’ stats. The Chilean low-cost carrier Sky Airline has received three Airbus A320neo and one A321neo. Sky leases two A320neos with CALC and one with Alafco, while the A321neo is leased with Air Lease Corporation. Its counterpart, JetSmart (also a member of Indigo Partners, like Volaris), has received two Airbus A320neo (one with SMBC Aviation Capital and one with CALC). Finally, the Colombian carrier Viva Air has received three A320neo, all leased with Aviation Capital Group. And the Brazilian airline Azul has a new A321neo contracted with BOC Aviation. What about Boeing? It is well known that Boeing is not winning the Latin American market. It has few unfilled orders in the region, all with legacy carriers that are currently battling an uphill race against low-cost competitors. So far, Boeing has delivered 14 aircraft in Latin America. Two carriers have received new planes, according to Boeing’s latest stats. Aeromexico has received eight new Boeing 737 MAX units (plus, it expects to receive a few more in October, but these planes will not come from Boeing, but rather, they will be leased with Dubai Aerospace Enterprise. So far, Aeromexico took delivery of one MAX in May, six in June, and one in July. Finally, Copa Airlines has taken delivery of six Boeing 737 MAX-9 as well. They came in couples between January and March. How many unfilled orders are in Latin America? We’ve seen how many aircraft have been delivered in Latin America in 2021. Now, how many unfilled orders are? According to Boeing, there will be 2,530 deliveries of commercial new aircraft in Latin America in the next 20 years. Most of them will be narrowbody, with just a tiny fraction of widebodies. Boeing still has to deliver 175 aircraft in Latin America, according to its stats. Aeromexico will receive 12 new units; Avianca, two; Copa Airlines, 41; GOL Linhas Aereas, 104; LATAM, seven, and Aerolíneas Argentinas, nine. Meanwhile, Avianca has delivered 675 new planes out of 1,129 aircraft on order in Latin America and the Caribbean. Volaris still has to receive 95 aircraft; Viva Aerobus, 40; Viva Colombia, 26; JetSmart, 75; and Sky Airline, ten. The next few years should be interesting in the region.
