LATAM Orders 13 Additional Airbus A321neos |

LATAM Airlines Group took delivery of its first Airbus A321neo leased from AerCap this week. It also placed an order for 13 Additional A321neo, which will further help the company expand its route network and drive its regional growth, said Airbus in a statement. Ordering new planes On October 2, Airbus announced LATAM Airlines had placed an order for 13 additional A321neo aircraft. In total, the South American company has 111 A320 family aircraft to be delivered, including a committed backlog of 76 A321neo aircraft. This order includes several A321XLRs. [caption id="attachment_77515" align="alignnone" width="580"] Photo: LATAM Airlines Group.[/caption] Ramiro Alfonsín, Chief Financial Officer of LATAM Airlines Group, said the fleet renewal and modernization strategy is aligned with the airline’s sustainability commitment and bring them closer to becoming a carbon-neutral group by 2050. “We will continue to work on enhancing the current fleet with next-generation aircraft to improve our connectivity further while caring for the environment.” LATAM’s newest A321neo aircraft can seat up to 224 passengers. They feature Airbus’ Airspace XL bins in the cabin, which provide a 40% increase in storage space and facilitate 60% more carry-on bags. Adding new planes Following LATAM’s Chapter 11 emergence, the airline has been focused on delivering new services, strengthening its Joint Venture Agreement with Delta Air Lines (launching new routes such as Sao Paulo-Los Angeles and Bogota-Orlando), and improving the overall results. This includes receiving and ordering new planes. By 2030, the LATAM Group plans to have more than 110 aircraft of the A320neo, A321neo, and A321XLR models to further strengthen its air network and regional growth, the company said in a statement. With the arrival of its first A321neo, the LATAM group now has a fleet of 321 aircraft, including 58 from Boeing (models 767, 777, and 787) and 245 from Airbus (models A319, A320neo, A321, and A321neo). LATAM Cargo Chile, LATAM Cargo Colombia, and LATAM Cargo Brazil have a combined fleet of 18 cargo planes, with plans to reach 19 by 2024.
