The Boeing-Embraer deal has taken another step forward with the approval of shareholders, after injunctions in Brazil blocking the shareholder meeting and vote were quashed. This eliminates another hurdle and the transaction will now move to the purview of global antitrust regulators, which may require Boeing to take additional actions.
Analysis
Clearly, not everyone in Brazil is happy with the transaction, particularly some unions that are concerned about employment levels and continuing influence. Other groups are concerned that Boeing’s focus on commercial and the KC-390 tanker will potentially drain resources away from the remaining businesses at Embraer, including business aircraft.
