Lessor Avolon has confirmed a Memorandum of Understanding previously announced in June for twenty Airbus A330neo’s, with most of them believed to be for the larger A330-900. Avolon has also converted options on fifty A320neo’s into A321neo’s, it said on September 5.

The MoU was announced on the third day of the Paris Airshow

and was not included in the total orders list of the event. The A330s will be delivered between 2025 and 2028. This is a year earlier than announced in Paris when deliveries were said to commence in 2026.

Avolon has been the launch customer of the A330neo in 2014. It has orders for 55, of which 25 have been placed or are managed with airline customers and one is committed. Airbus data show that only nine have been on direct order, of which five have been delivered. Customers include Cebu Pacific for eight A330-900s, Azul (fifteen), Corsair (three), Citilink (two), Beijing Capital Airlines (six), Thai AirAsia X (two), and Malaysia Airlines (ten on lease, ten sale and leaseback from 2024). TAP Air Portugal has eleven on lease and was the first airline to take delivery of the A330-900 in November 2018.
