China Southern Airlines and Malaysia Airlines have announced the expansion of their codeshare partnership, adding three new routes to their existing agreement. This expansion strengthens connectivity between the two countries and offers passengers a wider range of travel options.
Initially launched in July 2023, the codeshare partnership only included flights between Kuala Lumpur (KUL) and Guangzhou (CAN). Following this expansion, passengers can benefit from codeshare options on the following routes:
- Guangzhou (CAN) – Penang (PEN)
- Kuala Lumpur (KUL) – Beijing Daxing (PKX)
- Kuala Lumpur (KUL) – Shanghai Pudong (PVG)
This move reflects a commitment by both airlines to cater to the growing demand for travel between China and Malaysia. China Southern Airlines plans to increase its capacity in the Malaysian market to 73 flights per week, while Malaysia Airlines already offers 54 weekly flights to various destinations in China.
Benefits for Passengers
The codeshare agreement offers several advantages for travelers, including the following.
- Enhanced Connectivity: Passengers can now enjoy seamless connections to more destinations within China and Malaysia.
- Greater Flexibility: The expanded network provides travelers with a wider range of flight options to suit their schedules and preferences.
- Convenience: Passengers can book flights under either airline’s code, simplifying the booking process.
Looking Ahead, Boost for Tourism
Both airline representatives expressed their commitment to further collaboration under the “Belt and Road” initiative. This suggests potential exploration of new routes and deeper cooperation in various aspects of the aviation industry.
The expanded codeshare program, coupled with the current visa-free policy between Malaysia and China, is expected to boost tourism in both countries. Easier travel opens doors for cultural exchange and allows passengers to explore the rich offerings of each nation.
Overall, the expansion of the China Southern Airlines and Malaysia Airlines codeshare network signifies a positive development for travelers seeking convenient and flexible connections between China and Malaysia. This collaboration is poised to benefit both airlines and contribute to the growth of tourism in the region.
