Airbus reports 1H 2026 Financials and Affirms Guidance |

Airbus today reported its first-half 2026 financial results, which were quite positive. The Numbers Revenues were up 12% year-over-year, at €33,176 million, up from €29,610 last year. EBIT was €2,745 million, up 70% over last year, and Net Income was up 47% at €2,243 million, yielding a 47% improvement in EPS to €2.84 per share. From a cash perspective, Airbus burned cash in 2026 as it works to ramp up production in commercial, helicopter and defense programs, ending with €8,360 million against €12,171 million in 2025. Nonetheless, the company expects to generate significant free cash flow in the second half of the year that will erase that deficit. “Our good H1 results mainly reflect the higher level of commercial aircraft deliveries and strong performance in Defense and Space, against the backdrop of a complex and fast-changing environment,” said Guillaume Faury, Airbus Chief Executive Officer. "We are ramping up across all businesses to meet the growing demand for our civil and military solutions. Our focus on steady execution is paying off, as demonstrated by strong deliveries in Q2. This fuels our confidence in our future performance, as reflected in the recently communicated mid-term outlook." Orders, Outlook and Guidance New net orders for 821 aircraft brought the order backlog to 9,222 aircraft as of June 30, 2026, with 351 aircraft delivered during the period, including 44 A220, 271 A320 family, 10 A330 and 26 A350. Airbus helicopters deliveries increased slightly to 144 units compared to 138 last year, but with a more favorable delivery mix. Defense and Space increased revenues 9% year-on-year to €6.3 billion. Full year financial guidance for 2026 was built around 870 commercial aircraft deliveries, Adjusted EBIT of €7.5 billion, and free cash flow before customer financing of €4.5 billion. Production targets for Airbus models include ramp-ups to rate 13 for A220 in 2028, between rate 70 and 75 for A320 in 2027, stabilizing thereafter at 75, rate 5 for the A330 in 2029, and rate 12 for the A350 in 2028. These would provide a substantial increase over today’s production levels, and bring Airbus over the 1,000 aircraft per year threshold before the end of the decade. Risks With the potential escalation of the Iran War into a multi-front conflict, there are risks of oil shortages and disruptions in air traffic in the Middle East. Those potential disruptions could range from longer flights to avoid conflict to an entire shutdown of airports should missile attacks nearby pose safety hazards, as well as increasing fuel prices putting a premium on newer fuel-efficient aircraft. The demand for new aircraft is strong, and the questions for Airbus are whether it can ramp up production to meet its ambitious targets, and whether external factors could disrupt the industry. As such, things cannot be predicted, so we will need to wait to see what happens. The Bottom Line Airbus' financial performance is improving, particularly as adequate engine suppliers have now been secured for the production ramp-up. Now it comes down to timely execution of the growth plans. Over the last few years, the supply chain has let Airbus down during prior ramp-up attempts, but the company appears more confident that its production targets can be met. With a backlog of more than 9,000 airplanes, demand remains quite strong and should bring Airbus and the industry strong profitability. The question now is one of execution and delivery, and Airbus is becoming better positioned to deliver on its guidance targets by 2029.
