There are a number of challenging airports in the world for which steep approach paths are required. These include a short runway at London City airport in the UK and Lugano airport in Switzerland, which is located in a steep valley.
The Gulfstream G600 successfully demonstrated steep approach capabilities, low speed handling, and short-field landings to gain FAA certification for steep approaches. The aircraft first demonstrated these capabilities in 2021, with the FAA approving the certification in May 2024, joining the G650 and other Gulfstream models.
“This certification further increases global access for the G600,” said Mark Burns, President of Gulfstream. “Building on the speed and range performance advantages that G600 customers already experience, steep-approach capability broadens possibilities and increases flexibility for travel.”
The Bottom Line
This certification further improves the flexibility of the G600, a long-range intercontinental jet that is now certified to land at shorter and more difficult airports.
