The industry rumor mill indicates that Airbus is planning a long-range version of its increasingly popular A220 family and is discussing it with potential customers.  With the capability to carry about 130 passengers in three-class configuration, this aircraft has the potential to open new long-range non-stop markets that have lower traffic volumes and moving traffic from connecting at crowded hubs to non-stop service.

The A220-300 already has full corner to corner US transcontinental range, and with additional fuel tanks will have full trans-Atlantic range.  Combined with the aircraft’s capabilities for shorter fields and more difficult airports, such as London City, the potential to develop new international services in markets with substantial business traffic will be appealing to airlines.  The A220 is an ideal aircraft for unique premium-class heavy seating configurations for key markets.
