GE Aerospace 2Q26 – strong beat, guidance raised, supply-chain flag

GE Aerospace reported 2Q26 adj. EPS of $2.02. GE has raised its 2026 guidance, citing strong 1H26 results. But the stock fell about 4% on the print anyway. Headline numbers: Adjusted EPS: $2.02, up 22% YoY, beat consensus ($1.86) by 8.6% Adjusted revenue: $12.6B, up 24%; GAAP revenue $13.35B, up 21% Total orders: $16.5B, up 17% YoY — but this is the metric the market focused on negatively; order *growth* is decelerating even as the absolute number rises, and shares fell ~4% on the print despite the beat Operating profit: $2.75B, up 18%, though margin contracted 130bps to 21.7% (higher installed engine deliveries, GE9X ramp investment, inflation) Free cash flow: $3.0B, up 43% Segment breakdown Commercial Engines & Services: $9.7B revenue, +27%; $2.7B profit, +20% Defense & Propulsion Technologies: $3.4B revenue, +16%; $475M profit, +18%, margin +30bps All told, GE's results speak to the state of the aerospace industry. Demand signals are green. This led to guidance raised across the board: FY2026 adjusted EPS now $7.65–$7.85 (from $7.10–$7.40); operating profit $10.55–$10.75B (from $9.85–$10.25B); FCF $8.9–$9.2B (from $8–$8.4B). Backlog sits above $210B, commercial services backlog alone around $170B. A key item: $170B commercial services backlog and shop visits oversubscribed by 40%. That's where GE makes its real money, and the pipeline is healthy. The margin compression is the cost of building the installed base that generates future high-margin service revenue. The 130bps margin contraction reflects ramp investment and new engine delivery mix, not efficiency erosion — the $170B services backlog is where the long-term margin story is. The Aftermarket Flag Spare parts delinquencies grew 20% sequentially in 2Q, and management's own words frame this as "a governor on meeting total market demand." That's GE Aerospace, the strongest name in the sector, admitting supply constraints are capping what it can actually deliver even as orders keep coming in. This fits directly into the two-speed-risk-market thesis and this morning's China order pile-up. The demand side keeps strengthening across the whole aviation supply chain, but the physical ability to fulfill it — parts, castings, forgings — is the thing not keeping pace anywhere, GE included. Management also said LEAP-powered aircraft groundings are now "nearly zero" due to engines, a real turnaround from the fleet-wide reliability issues of 2023-2024. This is similar to the language we hear from Pratt & Whitney - their GTF woes are coming to an end. FLIGHT DECK (GE's operating system) is credited with a 50% cut in CFM56 final assembly time. Larry Culp specifically cited the CFM56 as an example of an MRO turnaround-time improvement at the Celma repair site in Brazil. Shop visits are oversubscribed by 40% relative to the full-year guide — meaning GE could be doing more business right now if the parts existed to support it. Meanwhile, GE aims to get the LEAP to the same level of reliability as the legendary CFM56. That's the same story we've been tracking across the industry for months. Airbus's Rate 75 target is stalled on CFM LEAP-1A engine supply. Aviation insurers are hardening pricing while aircraft ABS deals keep printing at routine terms — two markets reading the same risk differently. China just placed 200-plus Airbus orders in seven months that won't be delivered until the 2030s, regardless of how fast anyone wants them. Now the engine maker sitting at the center of nearly all of it — GE, via CFM, powers both the 737 MAX and roughly half the A320neo family — says its own aftermarket is capacity-constrained, not demand-constrained. Bottom Line The beat-and-raise quarter that the market still sold off is a story about expectations getting ahead of reality. But this is also a story about GE Aerospace becoming the most credible messenger yet for a thesis playing out across the entire supply chain: demand is not the problem anywhere in commercial aviation right now. The physical capacity to build parts, finish assemblies, and turn shop visits around is the actual ceiling — and it's the same ceiling whether you're Airbus chasing Rate 75, an insurer pricing hull risk, or the engine maker sitting underneath both OEMs' production lines.
