Azul Conecta To Electrify Its Cessna Caravan Fleet |

Azul Conecta, a regional subsidiary of Azul Linhas Aéreas, has partnered with Surf Air Mobility to pioneer the incorporation of electric engines into their Cessna Caravan fleet. In a statement, the companies said this strategic collaboration marks a significant milestone in regional air travel, poised to revolutionize the industry by embracing the electrification of aircraft. Electrifying Azul Conecta The joint effort between these aviation companies signals a commitment to transforming air travel through eco-friendly means, aligning with Azul Linhas Aéreas' ambitious goal of achieving zero carbon emissions by 2045. By joining the United Nations Global Compact, Azul is looking to pioneer in Brazil, committed to promoting business practices aligned with the 2030 Agenda's indicators. Azul is one of Brazil’s top three largest airlines. The company has a small regional branch, called Azul Conecta, with a Cessna Caravan fleet serving local airports throughout the vastness of South America’s largest country. Azul Conecta and Surf Air Mobility’s collaboration not only aims to meet stringent technical and regulatory standards but also endeavors to expedite the certification process for operating electric aircraft in Brazil, ensuring a swifter and safer transition. In 2021, Azul signed a US$1 billion order to acquire up to 220 eVTOL Lilium jets. At the moment, Azul Conecta operates a fleet of 27 Cessna Caravan aircraft, servicing over 80 destinations across Brazil. The collaboration with Surf Air Mobility paves the way for the seamless integration of fully electric engines into this fleet, leveraging Surf Air Mobility's proprietary technology that is both developed and certified. The first-generation electric powertrain technology anticipates a 50% reduction in direct operational costs while eliminating carbon emissions. What are the airlines saying? The partnership between the two companies will be crucial in successfully developing and implementing these innovations. We are eager to work together, designing the technology and integrating our electric engines optimally into our fleet. With this agreement, we believe we can expedite the certification process, ensuring a faster and safer introduction of this revolutionary technology to the market, positively transforming the future of the aviation sector.” Meanwhile, Stan Little, CEO of Surf Air Mobility, said, “For Surf Air Mobility, it's important to develop our technology with operators who will be the direct beneficiaries of the upcoming transition to electric aircraft. We are very excited to work with Azul to help us design our technology and determine how our electric engines can be best deployed within an existing regional network so that passengers gain the maximum possible benefit.
