Copa Airlines has announced opening a new connection between Tocumen International Airport (PTY) in Panama and San Diego International Airport (SAN). With this addition, the airline will expand its network to 80 destinations in the Americas.

Service will begin on June 25 with four weekly flights operated by Boeing 737 MAX 9 aircraft, which have a capacity of 166 passengers and offer 1,328 seats per week.

Flight Schedules

  • Flight CM 847: Departure from PTY at 13:16, arrival at SAN at 18:15 (Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday).
  • Flight CM 850: Departure from SAN at 20:58, arrival at PTY at 5:20 (+1) (Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday).

Pedro Heilbron, CEO of Copa Airlines, highlighted that the new route strengthens the company’s network and expands passengers’ options while ensuring efficiency and punctuality. He also emphasized San Diego’s role as a key destination for boosting commercial and tourism exchanges between Southern California and Latin America.

With this addition, San Diego became the third city in California served by Copa Airlines, joining Los Angeles (LAX) and San Francisco (SFO). Nationally, it is the 17th destination in the contiguous United States and the 18th, including San Juan and Puerto Rico. The airline’s expansion plan includes adding 13 new Boeing 737 MAX aircraft in 2025.

Copa Airlines Presence in the United States

According to data compiled via Cirium, Copa Airlines currently operates 229 weekly round-trip flights between Panama and the United States, establishing itself as a key player in connectivity with Latin America and the Caribbean. The March schedule includes operations in the following cities:

  • Atlanta: 4 weekly flights.
  • Austin: 4 weekly flights.
  • Boston: 7 weekly flights.
  • Baltimore: 4 weekly flights.
  • Denver: 7 weekly flights.
  • Fort Lauderdale: 5 weekly flights.
  • Washington-Dulles: 19 weekly flights.
  • New York-JFK: 24 weekly flights.
  • Las Vegas: 5 weekly flights.
  • Los Angeles: 21 weekly flights.
  • Orlando: 38 weekly flights.
  • Miami: 49 weekly flights.
  • Chicago-O’Hare: 7 weekly flights.
  • Raleigh/Durham: 4 weekly flights.
  • San Francisco: 10 weekly flights.
  • San Juan, PR: 14 weekly flights.
  • Tampa: 7 weekly flights.
