Yesterday, at the SUN ‘n FUN Aerospace Expo, Daher announced avionics and systems enhancements for its Kodiak 900 and Kodiak Series III aircraft.   Enhancements to avionics include Garmin’s GDL60 datalink and PlaneSync™ technology.  Those improvements enable a “connected aircraft” for rapid and wireless downloads of navigation and database logging for simplified flight and engine performance tracking.  It also enables remote access and aircraft wake-up to check fuel and systems status.

The PlaneSync™ connectivity is harmonized with the system available for the TBM 960, providing pilots of both aircraft a similar system.  Among the external changes are new lights from Whelen for landing, taxi, navigation, and strobe recognition that improve visibility and safety and provide a longer service life.

The Avionics One package on the Kodiak 900 and Kodiak Series III includes the GWX 8000 StormOptix doppler weather radar from Garmin, providing volumetric scanning and automatic threat analysis. The all-digital GRA55 radar altimeter has state-of-the-art digital signal processing technologies that increase accuracy and is paired with the GTX345D diversity transponder, which helps reduce pilot workload. With real-time traffic and weather data and enhanced signal reception, better information will be available in the cockpit to improve safety.

Nicholas Chabbert, Daher Aircraft CEO, stated, “The Kodiak is benefitting once again from Daher’s commitment to continual improvement across its product lines, reflecting advancements in technology and systems and meeting the evolving operational requirements of our customers.

The Bottom Line

Continuous improvement is a key in aviation, and Daher’s improvements to the Kodiak aircraft family, along with its TBM 960, are sustaining its reputation for innovation and advanced cockpits. That should bode well for the future of the Kodiak aircraft family for utility and special mission applications.
