GMR Airports ups its Artificial Intelligence play |

Asia’s largest private airport operator, GMR Airports, is gearing up for future airport expansion by deploying AI-backed solutions like the Airport Predictive Operations Centre (APOC). The APOC, developed by WAISL Limited, integrates airside, landside, and terminal operations into a unified system. It utilizes real-time data to optimize decision-making, minimize disruptions, and ensure seamless operations. This is done in collaboration with all stakeholders, including the airlines. APOC became operational at GMR Airports' Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) in Hyderabad on December 11. "Our new AI-enabled digital platform and the Airport Predictive Operation Centre (APOC) set new standards in modernizing operations and elevating passenger satisfaction. By integrating real-time data and advanced analytics, we ensure smooth passenger flow, reduced wait times, and personalized services, shaping the future of air travel with unparalleled efficiency and safety,” said SGK Kishore, executive director, South & Chief Innovation Officer, GMR Airports. The airport hopes this digital play will improve the passenger experience. The platform employs real-time analytics to optimize passenger flow and security, reducing congestion and enhancing safety. It also improves terminal operations by boosting throughput, reducing wait times, and minimizing missed flights. High-visibility areas are optimized to support special needs, ensuring a more inclusive and comfortable journey. The airport noted that the real-time insights also allow for enhanced throughput, gate usage, and dwell times, thereby improving overall efficiency. The new setup can run virtual simulations for various operational scenarios, enhance airside efficiency, and support proactive decision-making. It can also reduce traffic congestion through early problem detection. Real-time monitoring and improved traffic planning also streamline parking operations and enhance road safety. GMR Airports served over 121 million passengers at its airports in 2023-24. These included Delhi, Hyderabad, Goa, Medan, and Mactan Cebu International Airport in the Philippines. It is also developing airports in Bhogapuram (Visakhapatnam), southern India, and Crete, Greece.
