copa 737 9
The FAA proposed a new airworthiness directive on July 27 requiring inspection of seat track fittings on 453 US-registered Boeing 737 MAX 8, MAX 9, and MAX 8200. Boeing flagged the issue itself in a Special Attention Requirements Bulletin dated December 10, 2025: on certain aircraft, the aft-fitting shear plungers on track-mounted passenger seat assemblies were not correctly lowered and engaged in the seat tracks.
The risk, per the FAA: an incorrectly secured seat can disengage from the floor tracks under increased load, severe turbulence, or an emergency landing — injuring occupants directly and, separately, blocking the aisle, slowing evacuation when it matters most.
Boeing’s communication response in the next 48 hours matters as much as the fix itself.
