LEVEL, a subsidiary of Iberia, which is part of the International Airlines Group (IAG), announced that it has begun operating flights with its own designator code, LL, with its first flight taking off from Barcelona, Spain, to New York, the United States.
On December 2, 2025, LEVEL, a Spain-based low-cost long-haul airline, celebrated the fact that a day ago, its first flight under its own International Air Transport Association (IATA) designator code, LL, took off from Barcelona El Prat Airport (BCN) to New York John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK).
Its callsign, used to identify itself in radio chatter with air traffic control (ATC), is ‘Dalí,’ a nod to Barcelona and Catalonia, the territory where Salvador Dalí was born.
It was a “new milestone in the company’s history that will boost its growth and solidify its position as a leading long-haul airline from Barcelona,” it said, with the flight marking the point of “achieving operational autonomy as an independent airline within IAG.
LEVEL’s inaugural departure, flight LL 2627, took off from BCN to JFK at 18:45 local time (UTC +1), the airline stated, adding that it was “much more than just a change in operations.”
“It was a visible reflection of the airline’s evolution and the beginning of this new phase, in which it will autonomously manage all its operations, giving it the momentum to continue growing.”
The Spanish carrier assured customers that the change will only be visible in reservations and flight documents, with the LL code accompanying flight numbers to identify LEVEL as the operating carrier.
Rafael Jiménez Hoyos, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of LEVEL, reiterated that December 1 was a historic day for the airline, which began flying in June 2017.
“Launching operations with our own IATA code ‘LL’ is the culmination of a year of effort, dedication, and collective commitment following the awarding of our Air Operator Certificate (AOC).”
Hoyos added that obtaining its own designator code will help LEVEL to continue building its long-haul services from BCN, “connecting the city to the world and offering our passengers an accessible, customizable, and competitive experience.”
Cirium’s Diio Mi showed that in December, LEVEL’s long-haul network from BCN should span six destinations, including Boston Logan International Airport (BOS), Buenos Aires Ezeiza International Airport (EZE), Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), Miami International Airport (MIA), New York John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK), and Santiago International Airport (SCL).
All flights are scheduled to be operated with Airbus A330-200 aircraft.
Before the switch to having its own designator code, LEVEL operated flights on behalf of Iberia, which also sold the long-haul carrier’s flights. The latter airline’s booking engine still showed LEVEL’s flights for sale, including, for example, a December 6 flight from BCN to JFK. Incidentally, Iberia markets the flight as IB 2627.
