Aeroméxico commenced operations at Punta Cana International Airport (PUJ) with a direct daily flight from Mexico City (MEX), officially reaching its 100th destination. This new route reinforces the air links between Mexico and the Dominican Republic, complementing the carrier’s existing service to Santo Domingo (SDQ).

The inaugural flight was celebrated with a ceremony attended by aviation and tourism authorities from both nations. The route will be operated with its Boeing 737 MAX aircraft, which provide an estimated capacity of 10,000 monthly seats. These aircraft feature a three-cabin configuration (Clase Premier, AM Plus, and Economy) and are equipped with in-flight Wi-Fi, personal entertainment screens, and Boeing’s Sky Interior lighting system.

Giancarlo Mulinelli, Senior Vice President of Global Sales for Aeroméxico, stated that reaching the 100th station marks more than an operational achievement, describing it as “a demonstration of Aeroméxico’s firm commitment to the strategic expansion of our international network.” He added, “Punta Cana is a key destination for our customers, and this new route strengthens connectivity between Mexico and the Dominican Republic. We deeply appreciate the collaboration of local authorities and the airport in making this important step a reality.”

Punta Cana is a crucial hub for the Dominican Republic, handling over 60% of the country’s total air traffic. The privately operated airport is known for its modern infrastructure and extensive international connectivity, receiving flights from more than 70 cities worldwide. The addition of Aeroméxico’s service further solidifies its position as a leading Caribbean gateway.

“This new alliance between Aeroméxico and Punta Cana Airport marks the beginning of an exciting journey, which will not only expand connectivity options for our passengers but also open new doors to tourism, business, and the strengthening of ties between Mexico and the Dominican Republic,” expressed Giovanni Rainieri, Airside Operations Director for Punta Cana International Airport.

The launch of the Punta Cana route follows other recent international expansions by Aeroméxico, including new services to Panama City (PTY) and Cali, Colombia (CLO), showcasing a clear strategy of growth across Latin America and the Caribbean.
