Libya’s Berniq Airways has ordered six A320neo family aircraft, adding to the 6 A320 already operated by the airlines. The additional aircraft will be used to develop regional and international routes.
Waseem Ezzway, Chairman of Berniq Airways said, “We are proud to be the first airline in Libya to order the advanced A320neo Family aircraft. This significant investment marks a new chapter for Berniq Airways as we continue to lead the way in modernizing our fleet and enhancing our service offerings.”
Benoît de Saint-Exupéry, Executive Vice President Sales of the Commercial Aircraft business said, “It is a pleasure to see Berniq Airways expanding its fleet with the world’s best-in-class single-aisle aircraft. The A320neo family will enable Berniq Airways to provide its customers with unparalleled comfort while offering the airline exceptional economic advantages.”
This order was initially announced on May 16th, and conversion of the MOU to a firm order was announced via a press release. There was no ceremony or press conference at Farnborough 2024.
Libya has been in a state of civil war since the death of Muammar Gaddafi in 2011, and Libya has a small fleet of commercial aircraft spread across several airlines. Berniq Airways was founded in 2018 and is based in Benghazi. The carrier flies a few domestic flights and international flights to Tunis, Cairo, Istanbul, and Dubai. While the environment in Libya is not yet secured, the carrier is planning expansion and international growth.
