Delivery data confirms Boeing’s MAX progress

For so long, any news about MAX was unsettling. However, it appears that the changes implemented since the leadership switch and following the strike are effective. Reports confirm that Boeing's production rates are improving. Production is great, but deliveries are key to moving cash into the bank. As always, we go to the data to develop an opinion. Starting with MAX deliveries by model. [caption id="attachment_91494" align="aligncenter" width="680"] AirInsight[/caption] The table is updated as of 8:00 a.m. on June 6, 2025. There may be additional deliveries later in the day, which we will collect over the weekend. The sparklines tell the story here. The red dot is the high point. As we can see, the number of days between the first flight and delivery is shrinking. Sure, there have been hiccups, but the trend is clear. The MAX 8, being the most popular model, shows these hiccups more than the other models. The primary takeaway here is progress. Now, look at the data by customer. We selected customers who have taken at least 25 aircraft. We see that the progress overall is unequal - no surprise. Customers are not equal. Notably, Ryanair's red dot comes later than its peer group among the top three. The top three are the only operators with over 100 deliveries. Alaska Airlines is ahead of American. When did this ever happen before? As a result, Alaska is treated better than American. We are seeing Alaska transform itself from a big airline into something bigger. The focus on MAX 9s is driving the airline squarely into MOM territory. That has market-changing implications. No wonder Boeing treats the airline well. Air Canada's results appear unusual and may be related to its fleet planning rather than any actions by Boeing. This was an early MAX adopter. The highlighted airlines are based in China, and we can see how geopolitics has played out. Squeezed between them is India's Akasa, which has cherry-picked rejected Chinese MAX deliveries and grown rapidly. Note that higher up on the list is Air India Express, another beneficiary of aging Chinese deliveries that were stuck in inventory. Conclusion We believe Boeing is making steady progress. We see this reflected in a slowdown at Airbus, which is not receiving CFM deliveries at the required rates. Those deliveries are being moved back to Renton to support Boeing.
