Embraer had an excellent 2024 and looks like having another great year in 2025. The OEM recovered from its dive after the failed Boeing merger. Recent news from Poland shows its growing reach beyond its traditional role as the leading regional jet maker. Using data from Skailark, we offer insight into why Embraer is winning deals and interest. We have noted previously how this OEM developed an enviable record of development and innovation. Not only is Embraer the only Western regional jet maker, but its business jets are category leaders as well. Its military freighter is now also winning deals across NATO. The proof of Embraer's innovation and developments can be seen in its growing backlog. The data we are working with is independently collected. It is airline operational data, and the OEM does not influence it. Moreover, the data comes from airlines across the globe. This chart provides a graphic clue about Embraer's success in commercial aviation. The ball size reflects the number of flights. The sheer size of the E175 (ERJ 175) ball identifies how important regional airline service is to Embraer. Following the X-axis, note how Embraer's aircraft have grown from the ERJ 145 to the E195-E2, which is a tripling capacity. The Y-axis shows how each new model has offered airlines more range capability. Each new model has provided more performance, and not by a small amount. Three aircraft demonstrate substantial performance improvements. It is a significant improvement over the E170, which has been improved and tweaked. An even better version would now be in service but for US airline pilot Scope Clauses. The E175 in service delivers 14 better fuel burn and 22% more stage length. Given the restrictions regional airlines face, this improvement helps ensure that regional airline service remains available in the United States. Because of its operational performance, the E175 is now attracting business in India and Africa. E190 to E190-E2 The first generation E1s saw the E190 as the most popular model. With the E2, the E195 is the most popular so far. However, the E190-E2 delivers 26% better fuel burn with 12% more stage length. The E2 family benefits from being relatively light compared to its competitor, the Airbus A220. This lower weight has enabled the E2 to suffer less from the Pratt & Whitney GTF challenges. The E190-E2 won a crucial customer in Singapore, flying under the Scoot brand. Asia is the fastest-growing commercial aviation market, and with an influential customer in place, Embraer is well-placed to win more business. E195 to E195-E2 This model is Embraer's commercial flagship. The E2 delivers 30% better fuel burn and 55% more stage length. These are eye-popping numbers, so it's no wonder airlines are focusing on this model. Airlines invariably acquire aircraft with more range than they typically use. For example, in the US market, there's a focus on the "Transcon" range of 3,000 miles. The typical domestic US flight is about 1,000 miles. Therefore, the E195-E2 is in the sweet spot of offering more capability than airlines typically use. That extra capability allows for pushing the aircraft when an opportunity arises. Fleet decisions are 20-year bets, after all. Helvetic in Switzerland is an example of this. Conclusion The data shows how Embraer improved its offerings with each generation. You might question the data as being "too good." We are comfortable with the data as we have worked with it for several years. While Embraer has earned its reputation and place in global airline fleets, the big question is what's next. The OEM business, development, and innovation are crucial. Embraer's history leaves us confident that something is cooking in San Jose dos Santos.
