Lufthansa centennial Boeing 787 9 on the ground
Lufthansa announced that it brought forward booking dates for its Allegris business class seats on Boeing 787-9s, citing significant certification progress of the seats, allowing passengers to book seats in the cabins from March 29.
On February 24, 2026, Lufthansa announced that, following “significant progress in recent days” and the expected earlier certification of its Allegris business class seats on the 787-9s, passengers can now book their business class seats for travel from March 29, not April 15 as previously stated.
“Now, Business Class on the Boeing 787-9 can be booked with virtually no restrictions for flights from the end of March and thus also for Easter holiday travel.”
However, the three business class seats on the second row are not available for bookings, it warned.
Lufthansa added that at least 10 787-9s should be flying commercially by the end of March, all based at Frankfurt Airport (FRA). According to planespotters.net, the German airline currently has 14 787-9s, nine of which have the Allegris cabins.
The other five are scheduled to join Austrian Airlines’ fleet, the site indicated. Unlike the Allegris-equipped 787-9s, which have 28 business, 28 premium economy, and 231 economy class seats, the quintet has 26 business, 21 premium economy, and 247 economy class seats.
“With 25 Allegris seats available for booking starting today, over 200 additional business class seats in the state-of-the-art and successful Allegris class will go on sale every day.”
At the beginning of the summer 2026 season, the nine – to be 10 – 787-9s will fly to seven destinations from FRA, with New York John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) and Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) joining in June. In July, the Allegris-equipped 787-9 aircraft will also fly to Delhi Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL).

In addition, the 787-9 will fly to four additional destinations, “initially with some flights featuring Allegris and others without,” Lufthansa said. The German airline plans to have 29 787-9s by the end of 2027.
The Allegris-equipped 787-9s are complemented by the A350-900s, which also feature Allegris cabins. While the initial rollout was bumpy, including certification issues with the first-class suites, the carrier now has 10 A350-900 aircraft with Allegris cabins.
In July, the 267-seat A350-900s will fly to seven destinations, including four in the United States, per Cirium’s Diio Mi.
