As we approach the end of the year, here’s a look back at November at domestic air traffic volumes across selected markets.
We split the market into four tiers by volume. Each tier has a page in the model below. On the upper chart for each page, you have an interactive chart – click on 2025, for example, and the year opens up to months. You will see that some markets report their data quickly and others do not.
However, the trends are essential. We originally wanted to show how domestic traffic has recovered from the pandemic, but we keep updating the model to see what has happened since. The lower chart shows January 2019 as the base period = 100. As markets go over 100, they have recovered and grown beyond the base period.
Look for changes over time – are the leading markets the same, or has there been a change? Changes bring disruption.
- For example, in tier 1, India is now considered a significant growth market. Does the data support this yet? The answer is not yet.
- In tier 2, you can see the dominance of the Mexican market. It is surprisingly stronger than Brazil’s.
- Tier 3 also shows some surprises. Colombia is doing well, while Chile is declining. South Africa also seems to be losing pace.
- Tier 4 shows Nigeria’s rise as Peru and Argentina slow.
