EVA Air has announced that it would purchase four Boeing 787-9 aircraft, as well as extend the leases of four additional 777-300ERs, with the Taiwanese carrier not disclosing the delivery dates of the four 787-9s.

In a Taiwan Stock Exchange (TWSE) filing on December 26, 2025, EVA Air disclosed that its board of directors authorized the purchase of four 787-9 aircraft, with the price of each widebody not exceeding $485 million.

At list prices, the transaction’s total value should not exceed $1.94 billion, the filing read.

However, the Taiwanese airline did not specify the delivery dates of the four jets, with Boeing’s order and deliveries filings showing that EVA Air had not made any order for any 787-9s during the year. No unidentified customer had also ordered four 787-9s as of November 30, the manufacturer’s data indicated.

According to Boeing, EVA Air’s last order was booked in May 2024, when the airline added four 787-10 aircraft to its backlog. The carrier purchased an additional five 787-9s in March 2023, and, as of November 30, had unfilled orders for five 787-9 and four 787-10 aircraft.

Planespotters.net data showed that EVA Air currently has 21 787 aircraft, eight 787-9 and 13 787-10s.

In a separate TWSE filing, EVA Air said that it would extend the lease of four 777-300ERs. The company said that it will publish a “supplementary announcement” once it finalizes the negotiations of the lease extension.

EVA Air now has 33 777-300ERs in its fleet, 13 of which are leased from aircraft lessors, including AerCap, Air Lease Corporation (ALC), BOC, and World Star Aviation. On September 2, ALC announced that it would be acquired by a holding company jointly owned by Apollo, Brookfield, Sumitomo Corporation, and SMBC Aviation Capital.

Nevertheless, EVA Air is not the only Taiwanese airline that has announced orders in the past few months. On November 26, China Airlines published a TWSE filing, announcing the order of five Airbus A350-1000, five 777-9, four 777-8F, and two 777F aircraft.

While Boeing has not officially announced the order, with the aircraft already being present in the planemaker’s backlog, having been booked in November, China Airlines did secure options for five 777-9 and four 777-8Fs when it unveiled its other 777X deal in May 2025. Then, the Taiwanese airline purchased 10 777-9 and four 777-8Fs, as well as signed up for the aforementioned options.

On December 18, Airbus confirmed China Airlines had ordered the quintet of A350-1000s, which will complement its current fleet of 15 A350-900 aircraft, and the 10 A350-1000s that it had finalized an order for in March.

At the time, Kao Shing-Hwang, the Chairman of China Airlines, said that the expansion of its A350 fleet was “another important step in our long-term growth strategy,” adding that the type’s “exceptional efficiency and passenger comfort align with our goals to modernise our fleet, enhance long-haul competitiveness and deliver an elevated travel experience to our customers.”
