United’s news today about adding over 250 aircraft to its fleet over the next two years is not just about new metal and better fuel burn
. It represents a major step in offering a premium product to US domestic customers, with the Polaris interior rolled out across the domestic and regional fleet to win (new) customers and capture a bigger market share.
The United Elevated interior, with Polaris suites and premium seats, was first announced in May 2025 as a teaser for the new Boeing 787-9, the first of which will enter service on April 22 from San Francisco to Singapore, and a week later to London Heathrow. It offers 99 premium seats, the highest number ever on a United long-haul aircraft. Through 2028, the airline expects to take delivery of 33 787-9s with the Elevated interior.
