Low-cost airline Scoot has ordered 11 Airbus A320neo family aircraft. The subsidiary of Singapore Airlines said on Thursday that the agreement includes five aircraft from a new order plus six options from a 2014 order.

Deliveries will start in 2028, and all aircraft will be powered by Pratt & Whitney PW1100G-JM engines. Airbus says in its April Orders and Deliveries sheet that Scoot placed an order for five aircraft on April 16: four A320neos and one A321neo. The options have not been specified by type.

Scoot operates both variants and has 12 A320neos. The first aircraft was delivered in October 2018, the most recent one last December. Currently, it has five aircraft parked, likely for repair and maintenance of the GTF engines. The fleet also includes 12 A321neos , delivered between May 2021 and December last year.

According to Airbus data for April, Scoot has direct orders for 22 A320neos and seven A321neos, of which 12 and three have been delivered, respectively. The other aircraft are leased. In today’s press release, Scoot says that the latest order brings the order book to 20 aircraft. But the numbers don’t match those provided by the airframer.

The latest order is partially for growth but also to replace the six A320ceos by 2028, which are on average 13.5 years old. This financial year has seen the phasing out of eight other A320ceos. Scoot’s fleet also consists of 13 Boeing 787-8s, 11 787-9s, and nine Embraer E190-E2s in its fleet, or 63 aircraft in total.

Flexibility
The newly ordered Airbus aircraft “will expand Scoot’s capacity and route deployment flexibility across a five- to six-hour radius, enabling the airline to launch new services and optimise feed into the wider SIA Group network. These capabilities will enhance the depth and breadth of Singapore’s air connectivity between Southeast Asia, North Asia and beyond, reinforcing its standing as a premier global air hub. This growth also reflects confidence in the long-term outlook for air travel, particularly within the Asia-Pacific region.”

In the December quarter, Singapore Airlines’ third quarter of its financial year 2025/2026, Scoot carried 3.7 million passengers, up 15.3 percent year-over-year. The LCC grew capacity by 10.7 percent and improved the load factor by 2.2 percentage points to 89.6 percent. Over the first nine months, Scoot carried 12.9 percent more passengers or 10.8 million and grew capacity by 5.7 percent.

“We expect travel demand to continue growing, particularly in the Asia-Pacific region, in the coming years. The range and capacity of the A320neo family aircraft will enable Scoot to expand and deepen the SIA Group’s network connectivity, providing the SIA Group with new growth opportunities and offering customers more seamless travel options”, CEO Leslie Thng said in a media statement.
