Here’s our updated model based on the April data.

Notes:

  • Airbus delivered 56 aircraft in April and booked 11 orders.
  • YTD orders are 204 net (280 gross, 76 cancellations) against 192 deliveries for a YTD book-to-bill of 1.12x.
  • The A321neo has 100 deliveries YTD compared to 49 for the A320neo.  The rapid upgauging is amazing.
  • ITA seems to be the only airline still taking A220-100s. We see an equally anemic uptake on its competitor E190-E2.
  • The story is not just the numbers, but the distribution of the numbers.  The following chart shows how concentrated YTD deliveries are.  There are strong markets and customers, but that list drops very fast.
  • China’s need for aircraft is not almost a pure Airbus play because COMAC can’t get deliveries moving fast enough.  Which underscores how much China needs Boeing, but that’s another story.
  • Airbus’s success in India is essentially dependent on Indigo.
  • United has come from nowhere to be in the top 15, all because of Boeing’s MAX 10 delays.
