Bombardier has won an order for up to 120 business jets from an undisclosed customer. Undisclosed customers are not unusual in aviation, but primarily for commercial aircraft rather than business jets. Apparently, there may be a new entrant into the business aircraft market that is yet to announce an innovative service offering, but plans to utilize both Challenger and Global business jets from Bombardier.

The order is for 50 firm Challenger and Global aircraft, with the breakdown between models also not disclosed, and options for an additional 70 aircraft. If the options are executed, the order would be valued at about $4 billion according to Bombardier. A comprehensive service agreement is also included in the order valued at $1.7 billion. As of March 31st, the company had a backlog of $14.6 billion and a unit book to bill ratio of 0.9. This order will maintain momentum with 50 firm orders, adding around $1.7 billion to backlog in the second quarter.
“This significant order underscores the competitive advantage Bombardier’s full scope of products and services brings to customers throughout the entire aircraft life cycle, from design to delivery, then throughout the in-service journey,” said Bombardier president and CEO Éric Martel. “We build trust each day with each customer thanks to dedicated team members around the world who ensure their consistent satisfaction.
While Bombardier indicated that the aircraft will be used for a new service offering, no details were provided nor were geographic locations, nor the breakdown of aircraft, disclosed between the possibilities, the Challenger 650 and 3500 and the Global 5500, 6500, and 8000 models.
We can expect disclosure of the new service offering and choice of airplanes over the next several months. The details of this order should be interesting, so stay tuned.
