The appointment of Mitsuko Tottori as the new and first female President of Japan Airlines from April 1 is a milestone for the Japanese carrier. At the same time, it perfectly fits the company’s ESG strategy to have at least 30 percent of all management roles within JAL taken by women.
Japan Airlines announced on Wednesday that Tottori will succeed Yuji Akasaka, who has been President since April 2018. Akasaka will stay on as Chairperson and Representative Director and takes over from Ueki Yoshiharu, who will retire. Akasaka has been with JAL since 1987, including three years as President of JAL Engineering.
Active as a journalist since 1987, with a background in newspapers, magazines, and a regional news station, Richard has been covering commercial aviation on a freelance basis since late 2016.
