COMAC delivered its first C909 to Lao Airlines. This is the country’s first Chinese-made airline in service.
The aircraft is under a lease from COMAC. Currently, 162 aircraft of this model have been delivered, with 645 routes in operation, connecting 158 cities, and safely transporting more than 20 million passengers.
Less reported is that this aircraft was NTU from Chengdu Air. This is, in our view, a rather important detail.
COMAC is reportedly forming a dedicated team to assist Lao Airlines. The tasks include preparing manuals, personnel training, aviation material support, maintenance capacity building, and other preparatory work. A professional crew, including pilots, cabin staff, operations controllers, and maintenance experts, has also been dispatched to ensure the safe and efficient operation of C909 aircraft in Laos. This will be a critical function because, without support and service, the aircraft will not be successful.
Indonesia is the only nation outside China operating C909s to date. Tomorrow, we will report on OEM deliveries for 1Q25.
