An important milestone for Embraer: its biggest airliner ever has received triple certification. The US FAA, Europe’s EASA and Brazil’s CAA awarded the E192-E2 the type certificate during a special ceremony at the OEM’s headquarters in Sao Jose dos Campos on April 15.
The certificate follows a careful period of flight testing that begun after the first flight on March 29, 2017. As with the E190-E2 Embraer said it would take the time necessary to take the new type through its paces. The E2 seats 120 passengers in a three-class cabin, 132 in a dual-class lay-out and 146 in a single cabin configuration. It has three seat rows more than the standard E195.
Range is 4.917km, Maximum Take-off Weight 61.500km. The new version has a wing specifically designed for the type, the new fly-by-wire system and Pratt & Whitney’s Geared Turbofan engines. Flight testing has shown that specific fuel consumption is 2.4 percent better than anticipated, giving the E2 a 25.4 percent better sfc per seat over the E195.
At 121 sales the E195-E2 is the best selling E2 version so far, with Brazil’s Azul the biggest customer at 51 aircraft. Azul will be the first to take delivery. Other important customers are lessors AerCap (44) and Air Castle (13), plus recently Nigeria’s Air Peace.
