The question of when COMAC might become a threat to Airbus and Boeing has been asked in recent years.  But if asked again today, the answer would be right now.  Air Asia, the largest low-fare carrier in Asia, is currently considering aircraft from COMAC.  Since every COMAC aircraft purchased is one Airbus or Boeing aircraft that is not purchased, the competitive threat has become both real and imminent.

Air Asia discussions are serious

Tony Fernandes,  CEO of Air Asia and its parent company Capital A, confirmed discussions between Air Asia and COMAC.  “We’re in active discussions.  I can confirm that,” said Fernandes in a recent news interview.
